1939 – 1945
During the Second World War, there was a few unique occasions when we did make some ice cream. American soldiers stationed in Gilwern had access to all the raw ingredients to make ice cream, but no equipment. So upon request our 8 gallon batch freezer was used to make ice cream for the soldiers.
September 2nd 1945 marked the end of hostilities. Ben was released from the Isle of Man and returned home to Ebbw Vale. He immediately returned to his cafe and home in Ebbw Vale High Street and began planning how he could start trading again. He also decided to start producing his own soft drinks in small quantities to be sold in his shop along with his brother Bert.
